Window Display Boxes for Purdey & Sons

We utilised pine wood material and basic wood joinery techniques to create the display boxes. The handmade window boxes were displayed with clothes mannequins on the front facing window storefront.

We mass produced these hand made wood display boxes for Purdey and Sons’ Mayfair store window display. These display boxes are a great choice for decorative window displays or visual merchandising purposes.

Make Material Creation: Jesmonite X Carbon Negative

March 26, 2021

We recently combined Jesmonite with Carbon Negative Aggregate to form a unique building block material excellent for art fabrication projects of any kind. Within our material creation, Jemsonite acts as the binder with the carbon aggregate material.

Jesmonite is a water-based composite material that can be moulded for endless purposes within the realm of Art Fabrication. Jesmonite products can be used for craft, tableware, artwork, sculpture, lighting, furniture, marine vessels, film sets, architectural elements and cladding panels.

oco_2.jpg

Carbon negative is a sustainable construction material created out of a process called Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU). Carbon is sourced from waste materials and rides the wave of the reactivity capabilities of the waste materials used. Creating an accelerated process that results in sustainable manufactured Calcium Carbonate, or Limestone.

Beyond forming a unique and aesthetically appealing pattern from the mixing of the two materials, the Jesmonite X Carbon Negative material is perfect for sculpting that is thermal, weather, fire and moisture resistant. Lightweight, durable and a great substitute for cast concrete and traditional stone.

Animated GIF-downsized_large copy.gif

To create our new material creation we simply added the Carbon Negative pebbles into the mixture of Jesmonite liquid pigments and casted into prepared moulds.

If you’re interested in learning more about our sustainable materials, visit our Materials Library or Contact us for a chat about how Make It London can assist you in your upcoming projects.

Blast from the Past: Harry Potter Wand Prop

February 17, 2021

Harry Potter Magic Wand Prop

Throwback to when we 3D printed and hand painted a Harry Potter wand.

The wand was made from plastic nylon filament and designed to mimic the highly detailed wand carvings found in the wands used in the Harry Potter movies.

Our 3D printer applied artistic creativity seen in the Harry Potter universe, to give each character's wand a few distinguishing traits.

Moss; biophyllic design

February 17, 2021

Utilising Moss for decorative wall panels adds texture and create a natural cocoon into any work or communal space. Moss walls bring a natural visual impact and lowers energy costs. Areas around the moss walls are cooler in the summer months, and the winter, provide a layer of insulation within indoor areas.

The moss used to decorate the walls are all sustainably grown and preserved using natural glycerine and non-toxic food dyes. Moss walls reduce carbon dioxide levels, absorbing CO2 within indoor and urban settings.

Evidence shows the positive relationship between productivity and the presence of nature in offices. Moss brings in improved air quality - absorbing pollutants in the rain and air which are then converted by the moss into biomass.

Texas A&M University examined correlations between plants and productivity in the workplace. They found that participants demonstrated more innovative thinking and solved more problems whilst working in a space that featured plants.

Another study performed by Dr. Virginia Lohr of Washington State University found that participants working in spaces with plants were 12% less stressed than participants working at workstations without plants.

Excellent for interior design projects where communal living and working is essential.

Transforming Pablo Picasso’s Painting Into A 3D Sculptural Assemblage

January 27, 2021

Our latest bespoke artwork project is made from sustainable, recycled materials & objects, paying homage to Picasso's Cubist 'Three Musician's' painting originally made in 1921.

Picasso's original hangs in MOMA NYC, more than 2 meters wide and high, made during his Cubist period. This reinvented assemblage is 100x89cm with focus on crafting the shapes outward, using sustainable materials, tools and processes that were perhaps not around when the painting was originally made.

What is important is the process of making. The physicality of making by hand, and thinking through making.

Watch the video of the process of making of the 3d sculptural assemblage of Picasso's Cubist 'Three Musician's' painting.

Giant Fabricated Apple Sculpture

October 19, 2020

We fabricated a giant apple sculpture for Barnaby Barford's THIS EARTH OF MAJESTY, THIS SEAT OF MARS art installation in Holland Park as part of KCAW (Kensington + Chelsea Art Week).

The creation of the Apple sculpture involved cnc milling the cad from poly, the designing of the internal structure and hardening the fibreglass resin with a gel coat paint finish.

Our fabrication is almost 2 metres in diameter and features wrinkles, soft spots and a mushy texture. The Apple symbolises Barford’s examination at those in power and at their shameless desire for more.
