Make It is now an officical Jesmonite partner!

We love working with this material, it is exciting and simple material that is an eco-friendly and non toxic alternative to resin, plaster and even concrete. Invented in the early 1980s by Peter Hawkins a a concrete technologist, Jesmonite can be used for many different purposes from a creative and functional standpoint.

Due to the variety of Jesmonite compositions available, the material can be cast in a number of ways and in conjunction with other materials resulting in stunning colours and shapes. It is a chameleon material that can reflect the appearance and texture of almost any surface, whilst fast setting and water based making it an incredibly versatile option across both the arts and building industries.

Jesmonite was the ‘material of the year’ at the London Design Fair in 2017.

SCULPTURE FABRCIATION & RESTORATION FOR ARTIST PHILLIP COLBERT

Some sculpture restoration going on in our workshop at the moment, here we are adding a stainless steel armature and re-welding the lobster claws on to this incredibly heavy stainless steel sculpture ‘Head Of Medusa’ by Phillip Colbert. Once the steel work is complete we will then go to work on respraying the paint work.

Beautiful decorative panel cast for hotel

Martin Hulbert Design studio recently asked us to make a decorative panel for them using two tones of ac730 jesmointe, old teraccota and white marble. This panel was originally created from clay with a mould taken and cast multiple times with the ac730 jesmonite and hung in a London hotel bathrooms. Nice job!

Large wobbly jelly in the making for fantastic artist Rebecca Moss

Rebecca Moss artist and associate lecturer at Camberwell Fine Art Sculpture asked us to help art fabrciate a complex make for her upcoming show at Museum Tinguely in Switzerland, we are producing a large wobbly jelly. The form will be made from clay which we will then take a silicone mould and fibre glass jacket, then cast in a low shore silicone for maximum wobble. Rebecca is also making a vibrating table for this artwork so the jelly will be wobbling constantly! Looking forward to seeing the final piece, is a great art manufacture to be involved with and a fantastic artist!

behind the scenes making of Libby Heany public sculpture

Here we have a fibre glass reinforced body being worked on in our studio last month, was a high pressure job as needed to be turned around quickly ready for install in Regents Park in time for Frieze art fair. Super surreal sculpture, great to be part of its creation.

Latest public sculpture at Frieze , Regents Park

Recently we fabricated this large scale sculpture @friezeofficial , for quantum artist @libby_heaney_ in collaboration with Gazelli gallery @gazell.io

Libby’s original and densely layered work also has an AR experience surrounding the physical sculpture, and opens conversation about the power of future quantum computing, likening the positive and negative potential of quantum to Hieronymus Bosch’s dual depictions of heaven and hell. A must see for any curious being! Free exhibition on until 27th October

Edition artworks for artist Ai Weiwei

Recently we were commissioned to create a series of edition artworks for the artist Ai Weiwei in support of Tate gallery. Assembled by hand from children’s toy bricks, each piece builds a picture of  a sunflower seed, made famous by the artist’s seminal installation in the Tate’s Turbine Hall.

Giant doughnuts and macaroon stacks

Another fun commission for art consultants ArtLink, these giant doughnuts and macaroons were a joy to make in the studio earlier this year.

Carved from foam, coated in fibreglass and then handpainted, these sweet stacks make a bold and colourful statement for their new cruise ship home.

Cartoon benches for artist D*Face

We loved working on these eraser benches for artist D*Face earlier this year.

With their retro rubber seat, and feet that are reminiscent of Mickey Mouse, each piece is full of playful character.

Hand carved and formed in resin, fibreglass and jesmonite, we were extremely happy with how these benches turned out. Find out more here!

A Slapstick Genrerator with Artist Mel Brimfield

One of our most fun projects so far this year has been working with artist Mel Brimfield in creating her incredible public artwork ‘Slapstick Generator’.

Resin cast hands, jellies, oversized anvils and a balloon were created as part of the larger than life sculpture, displayed at the Art Block in Selfridges London.

It was so much fun working with Mel and we were grateful to be able to lend our hands to such a great project. Find out more here!
